Definition:

List style typically used for lists composed of short elements, like file names. In some browsers, this type of list may be arranged into columns.

Attributes:

COMPACT

Renders the directory style list more compactly than usual.

Context:

<DIR> ... </DIR> is legal within:
<BLOCKQUOTE> <BODY> <DD> <FORM> <LI>

The following markup can be used within <DIR> ... </DIR>

Suggested style/usage:

Use <DIR> ... </DIR> to build lists of short elements (usually, shorter than 20 characters long).
